EU announces 5 million euros in emergency aid to Venezuela

The European Union announced a response to the earthquakes that hit Venezuela.

The head of EU diplomacy, Kaja Kallas, confirmed the mobilization of 5 million euros in emergency aid for the country.

She also declared the activation of the European civil protection mechanism and the support of the Copernicus satellite system for relief teams.

The Copernicus system was activated in emergency mapping mode even before Venezuela's formal request, while the European Commission remained in communication with humanitarian partners.

The death toll following Wednesday's earthquakes (24) in Venezuela reached 1,430 this Saturday (27), reported the president of the National Assembly, Jorge Rodríguez.

Another 3,200 people were injured and 3,142 were left homeless by the disaster, he added on state television.

Since Wednesday's magnitude 7.2 and 7.5 earthquakes, 430 aftershocks have been recorded in the country, with the state of La Guaira being the most affected region.
