Estrela, a toy brand that spanned the childhood of generations of Brazilians, filed for judicial recovery this Wednesday (20/5). The company promised to maintain its operation, from manufacturing to marketing products, during the process.
Star emerged in 1937 as a factory making rag dolls and wooden cars and, throughout the 20th century, became a giant in the sector, rivaling the biggest global brands.
The decision, according to the company's statement to shareholders, is due to "relevant economic and sectoral pressures, including, among other factors: increased cost of capital and credit restrictions; changes in consumer behavior, with greater competition from digital alternatives; and impacts accumulated over the last few years on the financial structure".
Over its almost nine decades, Estrela has brought to the shelves essential toys for any Brazilian child, such as Banco Imobiliário and Autorama.
