English parliamentarian wants FIFA to postpone suspension of English player after episode with Trump: 'Rules applied equally'

English parliamentarian, Noah Law, sent a letter to the president of the International Football Federation (Fifa), Gianni Infantino, this Monday (6). In the document shared on his social networks, the deputy requests that the one-game suspension imposed on English defender Jarell Quansah be postponed until after the conclusion of the 2026 World Cup.
Quansah was sent off at the beginning of the second half of the game against Mexico, this Sunday (5).

"Although I believe that it was correct for Jarell Quansah to receive this red card and that the refereeing rules must be applied consistently, I believe that it would be correct to postpone his suspension until after the conclusion of this World Cup", it says in the document.
Law states, in the letter, that although he considers the application of the red card to be correct, postponing the punishment would be a fair measure due to the precedent involving North American striker Folarin Balogun.

Punishment revoked
Balogun, the US player received a red card from Brazilian referee Raphael Claus after a play reviewed by VAR. After the game, Trump took to social media to complain about the card. After the revocation, he congratulated the entity.

Disciplinary measures related to match-fixing cannot be suspended.
The entity's statement on the American player's case states that "if Folarin Balogun commits another infraction of a similar nature and severity during the probationary period (of one year, in his case), the suspension will be revoked and the sanction applied, without prejudice to any additional sanction imposed by the new infraction."
Belgium, the USA's next opponent, contested the decision, but had the appeal rejected. Earlier, the European Union and UEFA also criticized FIFA for canceling the player's card following Trump's request.
Infantino confirms Trump's call
FIFA president Gianni Infantino also confirmed this Monday (6) that he spoke to Trump about the red card.
"I speak regularly with the President of the United States about World Cup matters, and in fact received a call from President Donald Trump," he said in a statement.
