England have problems at the back for the game against Mexico in the World Cup
England may have an important absence for the clash against Mexico, this Sunday (5), in the round of 16 of the World Cup. Right-back Reece James is still recovering from an injury to the back of his thigh and is doubtful for the match.
Coach Thomas Tuchel stated this Saturday (4) that the player will need to be released by the medical department to at least appear on the bench.
James suffered the injury during the goalless draw with Ghana, still in the group stage, and since then has not returned to training normally with the rest of the squad. The Chelsea defender was left out of the 2-0 victory over Panama and also the 2-1 victory against the Democratic Republic of Congo, which guaranteed England's place in the round of 16.
According to the BBC, James was the only athlete absent from the activity held this Saturday, in Mexico City.
On the other hand, Jarell Quansah is available again. The defender, who played improvised on the right flank against Panama before leaving the field with an ankle injury, was absent from the team in the previous match, but participated normally in training.
"You saw that Jarell trained normally, he is fully available. Reece could perhaps stay on the bench. He still needs to undergo a final evaluation by the doctors to see if this makes sense", said Tuchel.
Another player being monitored is midfielder Declan Rice. Despite also dealing with a muscle problem, the midfielder is expected to start against the Mexican national team.
