End of 6×1 scale increases construction costs by 10%, says CBIC

The elected president of CBIC (Brazilian Chamber of the Construction Industry) Eduardo Aroeira stated this Thursday to CNN that a possible end to the 6×1 scale will bring additional costs of 10% to the Construction sector.

According to Aroeira, who is currently the entity's financial vice-president, this increase will be passed on directly to the consumer and the public budget.

The director based the projections on a technical study developed by CBIC itself, which also calculated the impact of the measure on staff hiring.

The country currently has around 3 million workers active in construction. If the reduction in working hours is implemented, it would be necessary to hire 288 thousand new workers to compensate and maintain the current production rate.

As a way to alleviate the labor shortage and seek productivity gains, the executive pointed to technological modernization, with emphasis on the evolution of machinery and above all digitalization.

"Artificial intelligence will improve the efficiency of companies and make employees' work easier", he argued.
