Employee strike closes the Louvre for the third time in less than two months

The Louvre, the most visited museum in the world, is closed again this Monday (19) due to an employee strike, the third since mid-December, when the mobilization began to demand improvements in working conditions.
"The museum is not open today," a spokesperson for the institution told AFP, after around 300 employees voted in a meeting to extend the strike, which began on December 15, according to the CFDT, CGT and SUD unions.
Since the beginning of the mobilization, the French museum has almost always been able to partially open, mainly for the "guided tour of masterpieces", which includes the Mona Lisa, the Venus de Milo and the Victory of Samothrace.

But this is the third time that the art gallery has been unable to open its doors. The previous two days of closure resulted in a loss of revenue of "at least one million euros (6.23 million reais)", management said.
The employees demand, among other things, that their salaries be brought into line with those of the Ministry of Culture and concrete measures regarding working conditions, which, according to them, have deteriorated significantly since the spectacular robbery of October 19th.
Since the strikes began, around 140 new hires have been announced, and a new meeting is scheduled for Thursday at the Ministry of Culture to discuss the salary issue, which continues to be a "crucial point of friction", according to Christian Galani, from the CGT (General Confederation of Labor).
