Elinho follows Brazil's victory over Venezuela in the Basketball World Cup qualifiers

Corinthians point guard Elinho was part of the Brazilian team's delegation in the 103 x 88 victory over Venezuela, last Saturday night, in Cali, Colombia, in the fifth round of the 2027 Basketball World Cup Qualifiers. The black and white player remained on the bench throughout the match.

Even with some moments of balance throughout the match, the team led by coach Aleksandar Petrovic managed to control the actions, especially at the beginning of the game and in the last period, guaranteeing another positive result in the competition. The highlight of the match was Bruno Caboclo, the team's top scorer with 22 points, as well as five rebounds.

Called up after standing out wearing the Corinthians shirt, Elinho is experiencing one of the best moments of his career. In the last edition of Novo Basquete Brasil (NBB), the point guard was an important player in Timão's historic campaign, which reached the semi-finals of the national competition for the first time. The team ended up being eliminated by Pinheiros, who later finished the tournament as runner-up.

With the triumph over Venezuela, Brazil maintained its 100% record in the Qualifiers and has already guaranteed early qualification for the second phase of the tournament. In addition to the place, a perfect campaign can represent an important advantage in the competition, as the results obtained in this stage will be carried forward to the next stage.

Now, the Brazilian team seeks to end the first phase without defeats. The last match will be against Colombia, again in Cali, next Monday, at 9pm (Brasília time), broadcast on CazéTV.

In the second phase of the Qualifiers, the three best placed in Group C will form a new bracket with the classifieds from the group composed of the United States, Mexico, Dominican Republic and Nicaragua. The teams will play six round-trip matches during the international windows of August and November 2026, as well as February 2027.

At the end of the second phase, the top three in each group will win a direct place in the 2027 Basketball World Cup, which will be played in Qatar. The last place allocated to the Americas will go to the best fourth-placed team between the two groups in the decisive phase.
