August's electricity bills will receive relief of R$767.2 million with the so-called "Itaipu bonus", according to information released by the National Electric Energy Agency (Aneel) this Thursday (25).
According to Aneel's calculations, consumers with an average monthly consumption of 116 kWh - close to the average for beneficiaries - should receive a credit of around R$9.16.

The Itaipu bonus is a credit distributed annually to millions of residential and rural consumers. The value is calculated based on the balance of the energy trading account generated by the binational hydroelectric plant in the previous year.
In 2025, the balance of Itaipu's account reached R$ 1.29 billion.

Before the distribution of credit to consumers, R$ 524.4 million were deducted from the total to form a financial technical reserve for 2026. According to Aneel, this mechanism was created to reduce the impacts of variations in the plant's cash flow and tariff.
The approval of the values is scheduled for the Aneel board meeting next Tuesday, according to the agenda published this Thursday. The agency has not yet announced the impact of the bonus on each consumer's electricity bill.
