Electric energy pressures IPCA in May

Residential electricity increased 3.67% in May and had the biggest individual impact on the month's IPCA, according to IBGE. The increase reflected tariff adjustments in capital cities and the extra charge for the yellow flag.

With this result, the IPCA rose 0.58% in May. In the last 12 months, inflation reached 4.72%.

In the opposite direction, transport fell 0.46%, driven by the drop in fuel prices. Gasoline fell 1.46%, while ethanol fell 6.20% and diesel fell 2.34%.
