Electoral appeal masks consequences of the end of 6×1, says Fiepa president

"It would be very good if there was a little more resonance in the Senate to the warnings that the industry has made", he declared.

According to the Fiepa representative, there is consensus among industry representatives on the importance of discussing the consequences of a possible reduction in working hours.

Carvalho recognized that the proposal has positive aspects, such as improving the quality of life of workers. However, he stated that he disagrees with the way the change is being conducted.

"I particularly disagree with this being defined and enforced through a constitutional measure", he said.

He also defended that what was agreed between the parties prevails over what is legislated, a principle that, according to him, represents an achievement of labor reform.

For Carvalho, the approval of the PEC represents a setback in the advances made with labor reform. He highlighted that Brazil already lives with competitiveness and productivity levels below the country's potential and assessed that the reduction of working hours, in the way it is being proposed, could worsen this scenario.

"This reduction in working hours worries us greatly about the aspect of competitiveness and the aspect that this will create yet another delay in a country that is already backward", he stated.

Carvalho also commented on the debate about the excess of labor and tax matters in the Federal Constitution. According to him, there is swelling in the Brazilian Magna Carta compared to constitutions of other countries.

In the end, he reinforced that the industry's position is not one of confrontation with workers, but of warning about possible economic impacts of the proposal.

"We are making a defense, a warning to those who want the good of the country", he concluded.
