Elderly patient dies after ambulance crashes into pole in eastern SP

An 82-year-old patient died after the ambulance transporting her crashed into a pole in the early hours of this Friday (5) in Mooca, East Zone of São Paulo.

The accident occurred at around 2:52 am, on Avenida Paes de Barros, when the driver lost control of the vehicle. In addition to the man and the elderly woman, her daughter, as a companion, and a nurse were also in the vehicle.

After the collision, the Military Police were called to respond to the incident. The 82-year-old patient was taken to the emergency room at the Dr. Ignácio Proença de Gouveia Municipal Hospital, but did not survive and died.

At the scene of the accident, the nurse was found unconscious. The elderly woman's daughter, aged 49, had pelvic pain and the driver had abdominal pain. They were also helped to the Sacomã and Mooca UPAs and the Hospital das Clínicas.

According to the SSP-SP (Public Security Secretariat of São Paulo), the forensic investigation was called in and the case was registered as collision, manslaughter and culpable bodily injury while driving a motor vehicle in the 42nd Police District (Parque São Lucas). The Civil Police are still investigating the causes of the accident.
