Egypt announces new digital visa system for tourists
The Egyptian government announced a new digital visa system for tourists. According to Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly, the new feature should come into effect from August for those arriving in the country via Cairo International Airport, in the Egyptian capital.
The measure will replace the traditional physical seal glued to the passport. Visitors will be able to fill in their details in advance (up to 48 hours before arrival), pay the migration fee and receive a QR Code, which must be scanned by the immigration agent.
The modernization seeks to reduce queues, speeding up the flow of passengers, as well as increasing safety in the process. The expectation is that the model will reach other Egyptian terminals later on.
Travelers who opt for the so-called "Visa On Arrival", issued upon arrival in the country, will be able to fill out the information using self-service totems available at the airport.
