The president of Ecuador, Daniel Noboa, declared a holiday in the country after the Ecuadorian team's historic victory over Germany (2-1), which guaranteed the team's qualification for the second phase of the World Cup in 2026.
"Thank you to the players and the coach who, despite the criticism, the insults and the bad times they went through, managed to recover and give this immense joy to the entire country", wrote Noboa on Thursday night on the social network
On Thursday, at MetLife Stadium (New York), Ecuador turned the match around against Germany to avoid an early elimination and advance to the round of 16.
Goals from Nilson Angulo and Gonzalo Plata turned the score around, which had been opened by Leroy Sané, to the delight of the more than 50 thousand Ecuadorian fans present in the stands.
