Earthquakes in Venezuela: death toll rises to 1,430
The number of victims of the two earthquakes that hit Venezuela on Wednesday (24) reached 1,430, according to the most recent balance. Among the dead, there are citizens from different countries.

Two Brazilians
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported on Thursday (25) that a Brazilian man and woman died in the tragedy. Itamaraty also announced that it will provide consular assistance to the victims' families.
28 Portuguese or Portuguese-descendants
The government of Portugal reported that 28 Portuguese or Portuguese-descendants died. In addition, 85 people remain missing.
Seven Chinese
At least seven Chinese citizens died in the earthquakes, according to state broadcaster CCTV, based on information from the Chinese embassy in Caracas.
The diplomatic representation also advised Chinese citizens who remain in Venezuela to adopt precautionary measures given the risk of new tremors and other disasters caused by the aftershocks.
Nine Spaniards
The government of Spain reported this Sunday that at least nine Spanish citizens died. Another 131 people remain missing, of which 14 were believed to be under the rubble.
According to data from the Spanish Ministry of Migration, around 147,000 Spaniards lived in Venezuela on January 1, 2026.
A Chilean
The Chilean Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed the death of a Chilean citizen in the earthquakes. The government also reported that it is providing assistance, guidance and emotional support to family members.
A Uruguayan
A Uruguayan citizen who worked as a photographer and lived in Venezuela for many years also died after the earthquakes, reported the Uruguayan Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
His wife and one of his daughters also died, according to the Uruguayan government.
An Italian-Venezuelan
A man born in Caracas in 1970, with citizenship Venezuelan and Italian, died after the collapse of a building in the state of La Guaira, the Italian government reported
According to estimates by Italian authorities, around 170,000 people with Italian passports currently live in Venezuela.
