British singer Dua Lipa filed a lawsuit against Samsung Electronics asking for at least US$15 million in compensation for alleged misuse of her image to promote the brand's televisions.
According to the lawsuit, filed on Friday (8) in a federal court in California, the South Korean company allegedly printed a photo of the artist on boxes of TVs sold at retail without authorization, falsely suggesting an endorsement by the singer of the products.
The image cited in the action is called "Dua Lipa - Backstage at Austin City Limits, 2024", and, according to the singer's lawyers, all rights to the photograph belong to the artist.
In addition to copyright and trademark infringement, the action accuses Samsung of infringing image and publicity rights.

The lawyers attached to the process screenshots of publications on social networks in which consumers associated the singer's presence with the product. In one of the comments mentioned, a fan wrote that he would buy the TV "just because Dua is on it".
According to the lawsuit, Dua Lipa became aware of the alleged misuse in June last year and repeatedly asked the company to stop using her image, but the manufacturer refused.
In a statement, a spokesperson for Samsung Electronics stated that the company will not comment on the case as it is an ongoing litigation.
