Dua Lipa's wedding sparks wave of protests in Italy

The wedding of Dua Lipa and Callum Turner has generated outrage among residents of the city of Palermo, Sicily, the destination of the couple's three-day celebration.

Last night (5), posters were spread across the city with the words "Palermo is not for rent", "Our square is not your living room" and "Freedom of Movement", against the restrictions placed on marriage. Due to the festivities and the quorum of celebrity guests, such as Elton John and Donatella Versace, strict security controls were implemented, as recorded by Getty Images.

Security agents, municipal police, metal barriers and black curtains were installed to block the view of the event, and the movement of people and vehicles was prohibited in some areas, with the exception of residents, explained the Italian newspaper La Repubblica. The measures caused protests to increase, in an initiative that came from Apro Palermo (Permanent Assembly of Resistance to Excessive Tourism), and asked residents to paste posters against the celebration on their balconies.

On Friday afternoon (5), a reception for wedding guests took place in Piazza Croce dei Vespri, a square in the historic center of Palermo, which had all circulation blocked for the party.
