Dua Lipa Is Fighting Book Bans With New Library

Singer Dua Lipa, 30, announced that her reading club Service95 will open its own Biblioteca Manifesto in the historic Livraria Lello, in Porto, Portugal.

According to the artist, the space opened last Saturday (27) will provide a diverse collection of books that address themes such as power, control, voice and memory.

"The Manifesto Library arises from the conviction that much more than a story is lost when a book is censored", said the statement shared on Dua Lipa's social networks.

"This prohibition, often tacit, restricts the right to question, imagine and understand the world", he added.

According to the artist, the creation of the Service95 reading club already had the objective of it becoming "a home for male and female readers, wherever they are and whatever their circumstances."

Now, the Manifesto Library initiative arrives to democratize access to reading. "Reading about the world brings us closer together - but unfortunately, not everyone agrees," she wrote.

"Here you will find 100 books that ask questions, or have been questioned. Some have been banned by school districts because they address themes of race or sexuality. Others, written for LGBT+ readers, have been restricted from viewing. In some cases, the author paid with his life for his words," added the singer.
