DUA LIPA EXPANDS LITERARY PROJECT INTO CULTURAL SPACE WITH A FOCUS ON CENSORED BOOKS
Singer Dua Lipa will expand her project to encourage reading with the creation of a literary space inside a bookstore in Porto, Portugal. The initiative brings together a curation of books that have undergone some type of censorship, challenge or restriction throughout history.
The environment will be integrated into the venue's cultural programming and should bring together around 100 titles organized around themes such as freedom of expression, social control, memory and the role of literature in the construction of cultural narratives.
Project expands the singer's reading club The action is part of the reading club led by Dua Lipa, which had already been promoting discussions about literature through recommendations of classic and contemporary works. Now, the project gains a physical space within a cultural institution, expanding the reach of the artist's initiatives.
The proposal is to transform the reading experience into something more collective, bringing the public closer to books that, at different times and in different countries, have faced restrictions or debates about their content.
Censored books and debate on access to reading The selection brings together works that have already been banned or questioned, as well as titles that address sensitive social and political topics. The focus is on stimulating debate about how access to literature can be impacted by historical and cultural contexts.
More than a thematic curation, the space seeks to encourage reflection on the role of books in the formation of critical thinking and the circulation of ideas.
