Dorival warns about São Paulo's performance: "We have lost control"
Coach Dorival Júnior did not hide his concern after São Paulo's victory over Boston River, from Uruguay, 2-0 this Tuesday (26), in the last round of the group stage of the Copa Sudamericana. Despite the positive result at Morumbis, Tricolor again lost its production in the second stage and fluctuated throughout the 90 minutes.
The script was similar to that of São Paulo's other games under Dorival's command, against Millonarios, from Colombia, and Botafogo. In these matches, the team took the lead, but conceded the draw, also at home.
"I think that within the competition we needed to seek classification, with first place. It's important. We had a match with more or less the same characteristics as the previous one. We have good moments, good situations, repetition of behaviors, and suddenly we lost control, we lost possession of the ball. It's a factor that draws attention, we'll look for a correction. It was a good result, nothing more", said Dorival at a press conference.
"I hope we access this, finding a balance, confidence, without wanting to defend the result at all times, which creates an unnecessary condition for the match. Our sampling in the three matches was close, similar. We need to repeat this for a much longer period of time, maintain the rhythm of the first half. Until we find that consistency, it will be a greater challenge", he continued.
"We still need a greater balance in relation to what has been produced. The team can grow, evolve, accelerate this process. Maintain a little greater control over our actions on the field. This was proven in the first three halves we played. But negative actions were also repeated in the second stages. We were thoughtful, analyzing, trying to understand. I hope that with more confidence we will have a more regular performance", added the coach.
Situation of Group C of the South American Championship
With the result, São Paulo finished at the top of Group C, with 12 points, two more than O'Higgins, from Chile, who took the place in the playoffs after beating Millonarios. The Colombians, with eight points, and Boston River, with three, said goodbye to the competition.
