Despite great expectations, striker Gabi Nunes will not be a reinforcement for Corinthians this season. Understanding that there are no financial conditions to make new signings for the remainder of the year, Timão decided to end negotiations.
Initially there was the expectation that the inflow of resources from Fatal Fans' new sponsorship would enable the club to present a proposal that would meet the player's salary expectations. Without a club since the end of his time at Aston Villa, Gabi had Corinthians as a priority to pursue his career. In May, Alvinegro even sent a proposal to the attacker, but saw the offer rejected. The values were considered lower than expected.
What about the future?
Leaving the race for Gabi Nunes at this time, Corinthians suggested to the athlete that conversations be resumed at the beginning of next year, evaluating that the financial situation could be more balanced and with a lighter salary bill.
The publication explains that the player must still evaluate other possibilities to define the next steps in her career. European, Mexican and United States teams approached her shortly after leaving Aston Villa. Brazilian teams also made contact, but Gabi ruled out acting under another name on the national scene currently.
Complicated scenario
The withdrawal from negotiations takes place amidst the delicate financial situation experienced by Corinthians' women's football department. In the last two months, the club has delayed the payment of the athletes' image rights, which were only regularized this week, and still has pending issues, such as installments of the prize money for the 2025 Women's Libertadores title and amounts related to participation in the Champions Cup.
Although salaries under the CLT regime are up to date, the delays reflect the financial scenario faced by the club, which accumulates a gross debt of around R$2.7 billion and a deficit of R$168 million until April 2026. Recently, Corinthians announced a new sponsorship for women's football, futsal and basketball, in an attempt to reinforce revenues allocated to these sports.
