Documentary about Melania Trump debuts at just 29th at the British box office
The documentary **"Melania"**, dedicated to the first lady of the United States, had a very discreet premiere in the United Kingdom. Even though it was released in **155 cinemas**, the film only grossed **£32,974** during its first weekend, finishing in **29th place** at the British box office.
The result drew attention because the distribution was considered extremely wide for a documentary. Still, the average was just **£212.80 per room**, a performance considered poor by industry analysts.
Despite the modest numbers, experts noted that the outcome was not as disastrous as some initial predictions indicated. By comparison, other recent political documentaries have grossed similar amounts, albeit in a much smaller number of theaters.
The project follows the trajectory of Melania Trump and addresses aspects of her public life during her time in the White House. Even before its premiere, the documentary had already sparked political debates and received very divided reviews.
In the United States, performance was better. The film debuted at the top of the American box office, grossing approximately **US$7 million** in its first weekend. Even so, experts estimate that the film will need a long international trajectory to recover its high acquisition and dissemination costs.
Critical reception was also quite negative, contrasting with the curiosity aroused by the theme and the public figure portrayed in the production.
Even with a discreet start in the United Kingdom, distributors still hope that the documentary will be able to expand its audience through the international market and, later, on streaming platforms.
