Doctor suspected of ordering pharmacist to be killed goes to popular jury in MG

The Minas Gerais Court ordered that doctor Claudia Soares Alves, suspected of being responsible for the death of pharmacist Renata Bocatto Derani, goes to a popular jury. Renata was shot dead in November 2020, in Uberlândia, in the Triângulo Mineiro. The decision also determined that the man suspected of being the perpetrator of the crime should also be tried by the Jury Court.

According to investigations, Cláudia had ordered Renata to be killed with the aim of keeping the victim's daughter, who was the result of a relationship between Renata and Cláudia's ex-husband.

The crime took place in November 2020 and was recorded by security cameras. The images revealed that Renata was at the door of the pharmacy where she worked when she was approached by an armed man who shot her several times. The victim died at the scene.

Investigations revealed that the marriage between Cláudia and Renata's ex-husband lasted just two months. To the police, he said that he decided to separate after realizing that the doctor displayed obsessive behavior towards the daughter he had with Renata, demonstrating a desire to assume motherhood for the child.

After the separation, Cláudia allegedly planned the murder of the pharmacist to keep the child.

Criminal history
Four years after the crime, in 2024, Cláudia was involved in another case with indictment after kidnapping a newborn from a maternity ward also in the city of Uberlândia (MG).

At the time, she would have posed as a pediatrician and entered the room where the baby was and took him from the mother's room. Then she went to a bathroom, put the child in a backpack and left the hospital.

The child was returned to the family on the same day and the woman was located, arrested in the act and charged with false identity and human trafficking. At the time, the suspect's defense claimed a "psychotic break".

According to investigators, the doctor showed no remorse and exhibited obsessive behavior in relation to motherhood.
