Doctor arrested for domestic violence in Ribeirão Preto

A 39-year-old doctor was arrested for domestic violence on the afternoon of last Friday (6), in the City Ribeirão neighborhood, in Ribeirão Preto, in the interior of São Paulo.

The suspect allegedly attacked the 34-year-old woman after an argument at home.

The São Paulo Public Security Secretariat reported that municipal guards were called to respond to the incident at a residence on Rua Guaíra. When they arrived at the scene, they found a woman with injuries.

According to the police report, the couple got involved in an argument that escalated to physical aggression.

The woman received medical attention and was taken to a health unit.

In a note to CNN Brasil, the doctor's defense claims that the attack was in self-defense. She allegedly threatened him with a knife and he attacked her to stop her.

According to the lawyer, the woman was drug dependent and had already tried to kill the doctor previously. The couple would have separated after this first attempt, but they got back together.

The incident was registered at the Women's Defense Police Station (DDM) in Ribeirão Preto, where the suspect is at the disposal of the courts.
