Fiorentina announced this Monday (8) the hiring of Fabio Grosso as the team's new coach. The former Italian national team defender signed a two-season contract.

At 48 years old, Grosso was remembered in football history for converting the decisive penalty in Italy's victory over France in the 2006 World Cup final.

After ending his career as a player, he began his career as a coach in the Italian second division, working for clubs such as Bari and Hellas Verona. He also commanded Brescia, Sion, Frosinone and Olympique Lyonnais.

His most recent job was at Sassuolo, where he gained access to Serie A in his first season. In the last championship, he led the team to a safe campaign in the Italian elite before leaving his position by mutual agreement last week.

In his presentation, Grosso avoided making promises, but highlighted his commitment to the Fiorentina project.

"I never like to make promises, but, aware of the responsibilities that await me, I can guarantee seriousness, professionalism and dedication in building a team with courage and ambition", he stated.
