Director of the Nadal documentary chooses favorite scenes from the Netflix series
The series "Rafa" arrives in the Netflix catalog this Friday (29), which portrays the legendary tennis career of Spaniard Rafael Nadal over four episodes. CNN Brasil spoke with North American director Zach Heinzerling, who wrote the documentary.
When asked about the process of researching archive images, one of the great attractions of "Rafa", Heinzerling ended up making clear his favorite moment in the series: the scenes depicting the 2008 Wimbledon final, between Nadal and Roger Federer, in England.
The Spaniard's victory by 3 sets to 2, 6-4, 6-4, 6-7, 6-7 and 9-7, is considered one of the greatest battles in the history of tennis and marked the first great glory of Nadal, the "King of Clay", in grass tournaments, which were Federer's specialty.
In the Netflix series, the match is narrated as one of the main chapters in the rivalry between the Spanish and the Swiss, the biggest names in the sport at the time. All this with precious images, in cinema quality, with very high definition.
"Something remarkable for me is that the Wimbledon 2008 matches were also filmed on film, in addition to high definition video", revealed the filmmaker. "The image recorded on film has something special."

Nadal x Federer at Wimbledon 2008: epic dimension
"At Wimbledon, both are dressed in white and the stadium has practically no logos. It's the perfect classic arena for that battle to take place.
And everything was filmed with enormous respect and care. I think it's impossible to recreate that today. Currently, in sports, there is much more advertising and marketing integrated into the spectacle.
There is a purity to that 2008 Wimbledon. Rafa's style, with the long shorts, contrasting with Roger's. The idea of someone walking onto a tennis court wearing practically a full suit and playing with a belt seems unthinkable today.
I can't imagine Sinner coming onto the court in a suit. Or those "pirate pants" from Rafa, so unique. The opposing styles were visually very clear to the audience and this made everything even more exciting. There's something about that match, the way it was filmed and the fact that it took place at night, that gives it an almost epic dimension.
