Dinei defends Corinthians base and asks for more opportunities for Gui Negão

Dinei, a former striker revealed in the Corinthians base and who played for Corinthians between the 90s and the beginning of the 2000s, gave an interview to Rádio Coringão and asked coach Fernando Diniz to give more space to Gui Negão, 19 years old. The young man has been overlooked by Pedro Raul who, since returning from loan from Ceará at the beginning of 2026, has not been performing.
Son of Terrão, Gui Negão has not played since the final stretch of March, when he had a grade 2 muscle injury in his right thigh, suffered during training with the Brazilian Under-20 Team on the FIFA Date in March. After recovering, he was listed again at the beginning of May, but has not yet entered the field after Dorival Júnior left. The lack of opportunities, according to the Timão Central, means that a possible exit in this July transfer window is viewed favorably.

"I really like Fernando Diniz. But I think you have to give Gui Negão more of a chance than Pedro Raul. He's a kid from the base. Do you know what you're doing? You're valuing a boy who's from the base. If you're going to add someone who doesn't solve any problems, then add Gui Negão. You're valuing a kid from the base", he said.
Gui Negão started to receive opportunities in the Corinthians professional squad in mid-2025, when the team was led by Dorival Júnior. At the time, Alvinegro was punished with a FIFA transfer ban, that is, prohibited from registering signings, in addition to injuries to Yuri Alberto and Memphis Depay, having to resort to using athletes revealed in the youth categories.
Initially, the young man had a standout performance, being decisive for Corinthians in the quarter-finals of the Copa do Brasil, against Athletico-PR, playing an important tactical role and being useful for the team also in matches for the Brazilian Championship. However, in the final stretch of 2025, its performance fell and became less used. In 2026, for example, there are 12 games and only one goal scored.
In relation to general numbers, Gui Negão has six goals and two assists in 36 matches for Timão, with 16 wins, four draws and 14 defeats - 50% success rate. In addition, there are two titles won: Copa do Brasil (2025) and Supercopa do Brasil (2026), against Vasco da Gama and Flamengo, respectively. His contract ends in June 2030, with a national fine of R$140 million and an international fine set at 100 million euros (approximately R$600 million at current prices).
Dinei's career with Corinthians
In two spells at Corinthians (1990 to 1992 and 1998 to 2000), 34 goals were scored in 194 matches (91 as a starter), with 85 wins, 53 draws and 56 defeats - 52.92% success rate. Furthermore, he won the following titles: Campeonato Brasileiro (1990, 1998 and 1999), Paulistão (1999) and Club World Cup (2000).
Even without being an absolute starter, he stood out for his decisive power in games considered major, as happened in the 1998 Brasileirão final against Cruzeiro, where he participated in all of Timão's goals in that decision.
