Dick Parry, historic Pink Floyd saxophonist, dies

Guitarist David Gilmour announced this Saturday (23) the death of saxophonist Dick Parry, historic collaborator of Pink Floyd and responsible for striking solos in classic songs by the British band. Parry was 83 years old.
In a post on social media, Gilmour stated that the musician died this Saturday morning and recalled decades of friendship and musical partnership.
"Since I was 17 years old, I played in bands with Dick on saxophone, including Pink Floyd", he wrote.

The guitarist highlighted that Parry's style and timbre helped create some of the most recognized sounds in the history of rock.
"His feeling and his timbre makes his saxophone unmistakable, a signature of enormous beauty known by millions of people", said Gilmour, citing songs such as Shine On You Crazy Diamond, Wish You Were Here, Us and Them and Money.
Dick Parry participated in some of Pink Floyd's most emblematic albums in the 1970s, a period considered the band's creative peak. His saxophone became one of the group's trademarks, especially on the tracks The Dark Side of the Moon and Wish You Were Here.
Gilmour also recalled that Parry participated in the "On An Island" tour in the 2000s, in addition to Pink Floyd's historic performance at Live 8, which marked the band's classic reunion with Roger Waters, Gilmour, Nick Mason and Richard Wright.
In the publication, the guitarist shared old photos alongside the saxophonist, including an image of the two playing together in Cambridge, England, in 1963.
