'Destiny 2' says goodbye to updates in June

"Destiny 2" will stop receiving updates from June 9th, nine years after the launch of the online shooter. The announcement was made by the game's developer, Bungie, this Thursday (21).
"While our love for 'Destiny 2' has not changed, it has become clear that after (the expansion) 'The Final Shape', we have reached the limit for our shared worlds and for 'Destiny' to live beyond 'Destiny 2'", the company wrote in a statement.
The company says it plans for the game to remain playable after the end of active development and what changes will be made to welcome players who wish to return.
Launched in 2017 as a paid online shooter, in which players live adventures in a universe shared with other users, "Destiny 2" has undergone profound transformations. The biggest turning point came with the transition to the free model and the separation of the developer from its former distributor, Activision.

To support this constantly evolving ecosystem, the game has abandoned the format of rigid annual updates and adopted a system of dynamic seasons and episodes.
The latest expansion, "The Final Shape", was released in 2024 to critical acclaim, but has not stopped the continued drop in active players.
"While our focus is on a fresh start for Bungie, we will begin incubating our next games."
