Deolane shares a special cell with another lawyer in an overcrowded prison
Influencer Deolane Bezerra, arrested on Thursday (21) during Operation Vérnix, shares a 9 square meter cell with another lawyer at the Tupi Paulista Women's Penitentiary, in the interior of São Paulo.
Because she is also a lawyer, the woman has the right to special cells. Given the situation, Deolane was exempted from the initial isolation during the inclusion period, in which newly admitted prisoners remain in a separate wing for a period of 10 to 30 days.
The influencer is being investigated by the Civil Police and the Public Ministry of São Paulo (MPSP), for an alleged money laundering scheme by the Primeiro Comando da Capital (PCC). She had preventive detention authorized by the Court.
After the arrest, in Barueri (SP), the investigated woman was detained at the Santana Women's Penitentiary, in the north of the capital. On Friday (22) she was transferred to the interior unit, where she was admitted at 12 noon, according to the Penitentiary Administration Secretariat (SAP).
Deolane Bezerra Santos, is registered as a lawyer in the São Paulo section of the Brazilian Bar Association (OAB). According to the National Register of Lawyers, your situation is regular before the Bar.
The cell assigned to Deolane has a bunk bed, fan and shower. Being a lawyer, she has more privacy and escapes the problem of overcrowding in the penitentiary. According to SAP data, one day before the prisoner's arrival, the unit had 873 inmates, with 159 above its capacity, which is 714.

Despite the special cell, if she needs medical, gynecological and dental care, she will be attended to by the same structure that serves the other prisoners. The food served in the prison is also the same for all prisoners, including those in special cells.
The routine at the women's prison begins at 7 am with breakfast. At 8 am the first sunbath is allowed. Afterwards, they return to their cells for lunch, served at 11 am. In the afternoon, they leave their cells at 1 pm to sunbathe again and dinner is served at 6 pm, when the prisoners return to the pavilions.
The penitentiary where Deolane is located is on Rodovia João Ribeiro de Barros (SP-294), at km 667.8, in the rural area of the municipality. The prison was opened in August 2011 and has a built area of approximately 20 thousand m2.

Does Deolane Bezerra have the right to a special cell?
The decision that approved the arrest of the influencer determined that "as much as possible" the confinement of her in custody in the General Staff room be observed, a prerogative provided for in the Law Statute for professionals regularly registered with the Brazilian Bar Association (OAB).
In practice, the benefit guarantees that lawyers arrested on a precautionary basis are not, as a rule, detained in a common cell before a possible definitive conviction. The measure does not prevent arrest or change the course of the investigation, but seeks to ensure a different form of custody recognized by law due to the professional prerogatives of the legal profession.
The determination appears in the order signed after the investigation's presentation hearing. According to the document, considering that Deolane proved to be a lawyer, "the prisoner must be kept in the General Staff room as much as possible."
The benefit, however, does not mean freedom, house arrest or different criminal treatment. What the decision recognizes is the incidence of a professional prerogative applicable during precautionary detention.
