Criminal lawyer Aury Lopes Jr., who joined the defense of influencer and lawyer Deolane Bezerra, used social media to comment on the repercussion of the case and refute criticism received after assuming representation of the person being investigated.

In a video published on his profile, the criminal law professor stated that he was used to working in high-profile cases and defended the importance of understanding the constitutional role of criminal law.

"I've been in this life for 32 years. I've worked on many cases, with more media, less media, more exposed clients, less exposed. This is something we're used to dealing with", he said.

One of the main points addressed by Aury was the reaction of part of the public to his role in the case. According to him, criticism directed at the defense reveals a lack of understanding about the role played by lawyers in criminal cases. The criminalist also highlighted that professional performance should not be confused with eventual agreement with the conduct attributed to the client.

"The fact that I defend someone only means that I am exercising the right to defense that they have, every fundamental right they have. You cannot confuse the figure of the lawyer with the figure of the client", he declared.

Aury also stated that, throughout his career, he participated in cases involving serious accusations and that, in some cases, people initially condemned by public opinion ended up acquitted by the courts.

During the video, Aury also commented on the criticism she has received on social media since taking on Deolane's defense. Without naming names, the criminalist classified some of the attacks as unfounded and stated that many demonstrations come from people who are unaware of the details of the case and the criminal process.

On the other hand, he thanked expressions of support from students, readers and followers who followed his academic and professional trajectory. According to him, the support received on the networks has been important given the repercussion of the case.

"I'm very happy when I see people defending me and saying: 'you don't know what you're talking about' to those who criticize without knowing the process", he said.

"There is no confrontation", he says about the prosecutor
Another topic discussed by the lawyer was the repercussion of publications on social media that began to portray his performance as a kind of personal clash with prosecutor Lincoln Gakiya, one of the main names in the Public Ministry in the fight against the PCC. In recent weeks, videos, montages and posts have started to treat the legal dispute involving the case as a supposed "confrontation of the century" between defense and prosecution. Aury rejected the narrative.

"I didn't think many of the montages they did there were cool, the confrontation of the decade, the century, I don't even know how old the confrontation is", he said.

According to him, the relationship between defense and prosecution is strictly professional.

"I'm doing my job, he's doing his. He's a competent guy, seriously, he's been in this fight for a long time. The police too. Everyone here is working. There's no such thing as confrontation."

The lawyer added that he doesn't even know if there will be a direct meeting between him and the prosecutor during the process, as issues related to the competence of the investigation could still change the course of the case. "There is no such thing as personalization," he said.

Defense tries to reverse arrest
The entry of Aury Lopes Jr. occurs amid the defense's attempt to reverse Deolane's preventive arrest. The influencer is being investigated in Operation Vérnix, which investigates alleged participation in a money laundering scheme attributed to the PCC.

In recent days, the defense has suffered setbacks at the São Paulo Court of Justice and the Federal Supreme Court, but continues to seek measures to contest the arrest and the elements presented by the investigation. At the end of the video, Aury stated that he will continue to work normally on the case and defended the role of criminal law.

"No one is free from needing a lawyer. Let's respect it."

"Aren't you going to say anything, professor? He's been missing for hours. Yeah, I'm in a rush, right? You can imagine what it's been like. I'm here at UNB, there's a lecture, but of course, every now and then I take a look at Instagram and man, let's make the following clear: I've been in this life for 32 years, I wasn't born into these humorous cases now, I've worked on many cases, with more media, less media, more exposed clients, less exposed. So that's a something we are used to dealing with.

Now two things have been bothering me a lot about this whole festival that has been happening in terms of Instagram and media, other good things, but some bad things. First is to understand the following, it is to understand the place of defense, you know? Rules of the game apply to everyone, for those you like, but especially for those you don't like. And another, the fact that I defend someone just means that I am doing the right thing and defending them, which they have every fundamental right to have. And more, right?

The figure of the lawyer cannot be confused with the figure of the client, which is another blunder. And I'm tired of sometimes defending people accused of very serious crimes who were defenestrated and then acquitted, you know? So, calm down. Second point is to respect those who are working. First point, I didn't think many of the montages they created there were cool, ah, the confrontation of the decade, the century, I don't even know how old the confrontation is, me and the prosecutor, Dr. Gaquia.

Buddy, I'm doing my job, he's doing his job, he's a competent guy, seriously, he's been in this fight for a long time, the police are doing well too, everyone here is working. There is no such confrontation, understand? I don't even know if we're going to meet at a hearing because this process could take a different direction and change. This doesn't affect anything, we are professionals. He does his job, I do mine and there is no such thing as that. I don't think it's even healthy when it's personalized. There is no such customization, understand?

Another thing that I have found very annoying is the completely unfounded criticism that I have read, you know? From people who don't understand anything, who arrived here yesterday, anyway, right? But on the other hand, I came here to thank you. A big thank you to my club, which, man, I've been really moved to see the defense of people who know me, know my works, who know my story. There are people who say: "I've been here since everything here was forest", right? I mean, people who came from the beginning, from Facebook, from 2000 and what, what, what with the book and have defended me and I think that's really cool.

It's never been, you know, I've never, ever needed this defense so much, because I'm not going to respond to attacks from mediocre people, you know, critical, imbecile people, I don't give a stage to mediocrity, nor a spotlight to crazy people, right? I've said this in other cases, but sometimes I read it and say: "Man, the guy doesn't know anything, not about the process, not about the process or about me" and he starts blasting me. And then I'm very happy when I see my active fan club going there, defending me, saying: "No, man, that's not it, you don't know what you're talking about". Is it good?

So, look, I'm missing because I'm running, but I'm not dazzled by this kind of thing. I've been in this life for a long time in more noisy and less noisy cases and I'm going to continue here doing what I know how to do, which is defense. And what's more, don't forget, no one is free from needing a lawyer. Let's respect it."
