David Lynch Wanted to Erase the Curious Barbie Short Film He Directed in 2011 From His Memory
When we talk about David Lynch, enigmatic works such as "Twin Peaks", "Blue Velvet" and "City of Dreams" usually come to mind. However, there is one extremely unusual project in his filmography that the director himself would prefer to forget.
This is the promotional short film "The Gentlemen's Guide to Grooming", produced in 2011 in partnership with Barbie and Mattel.
The production was created for an advertising campaign involving the famous toy line. Although it carried some visual characteristics associated with Lynch's style, the project was far removed from the works for which he became known.
The contrast between the director's surrealist universe and Barbie's commercial world caught the attention of fans and the specialized press.
Over the years, Lynch showed little enthusiasm when commenting on the work. The filmmaker rarely mentions the project and, according to the report, there is a perception that he does not consider the short film a relevant part of his artistic career.
The case became a little-known curiosity within his career, precisely because it represents an unlikely collaboration between one of Hollywood's most authoritative filmmakers and one of the most popular brands on the planet.
Even though it is a smaller project, it continues to arouse interest among admirers who seek to discover all the chapters of the director's work.
