David Beckham receives star on the Walk of Fame in Los Angeles

Former English footballer David Beckham received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame this Friday (12), in Los Angeles, on the same day that the city hosted matches for the 2026 World Cup.

Instead of the traditional red carpet, the ceremony featured a green carpet inspired by a football field. Among the guests were the former athlete's wife, Victoria Beckham, and actor Tom Cruise, who praised Beckham's career and classified his story as an example of hard work, determination and global influence.

When speaking, Beckham said the tribute was a "surreal" moment. The former midfielder recalled his childhood in East London and said he never imagined receiving recognition in Hollywood.

Currently president and co-owner of Inter Miami CF, Beckham also highlighted the expansion of football's popularity in the United States since his arrival at LA Galaxy in 2007.

During his speech, the Englishman got emotional when talking about his family and said he hoped his children would take their future grandchildren to meet the star, so they could learn the story of a boy who dreamed big.

Over a 20-year career, Beckham played for clubs such as Manchester United, Real Madrid, AC Milan, LA Galaxy and Paris Saint-Germain. He retired from playing in 2013, but remains one of the most influential figures in world sport.
