Datafolha: 65% believe that depending less on the government improves their lives
Datafolha research released this Friday (3) shows that 65% of Brazilians agree with the phrase "the less I depend on the government, the better my life will be". The statement "the more government benefits I have, the better my life will be" was chosen by 31%.
Of the total number of respondents, 4% do not know how to answer the question.
In four years, the share of those who agree with the first sentence grew by seven percentage points. In the previous survey, carried out in May 2022, 58% said that depending less on the government means being in a better situation. Those who preferred more benefits totaled 38%, while 3% were unable to answer.
The first time the survey was carried out, in November 2013, the two positions were tied at 47%. That year, 6% did not know.
Taxes x public service
The data is part of the economic axis of Datafolha's ideological matrix, which is made up of six questions. Among them, the institute also measures the population's perception of taxes and public services.
In this category, 50% of Brazilians agree that "it is preferable to pay less taxes to the government and hire private education and health services". On the other hand, 44% argue that it is better to pay more taxes and receive these free services. Another 6% don't know.
In the historical series, the indices only reversed numerically in 2022, when 48% preferred to pay more taxes in exchange for public services. 46% said otherwise, while 6% also did not know.
Methodology
The Datafolha survey interviewed 2,004 voters in 139 municipalities, between June 17th and 18th, through a face-to-face interview. The survey's margin of error is 2 percentage points, plus or minus, with a 95% confidence interval.
The survey was commissioned by the newspaper Folha de S.Paulo and is registered with the TSE (Superior Electoral Court) under protocol BR-09956/2026.
