Datafolha: 44% of voters identify with the right; 39% with left

Brazilians once again identified themselves mostly with the right, according to a Datafolha survey released this Friday (3).

The survey shows that 44% of Brazilians aged 16 or over fall on the right or center-right, while 39% identify with the left or center-left. Another 17% were classified as centrist.

The scenario represents a reversal in relation to 2022, when, during Jair Bolsonaro's government, the left accounted for 49% and the right, 34%.

According to the institute, this is the first time since 2014 that the right appears numerically ahead of the left. That year, during the Dilma Rousseff (PT) government, the right had 45% of those interviewed, while the left had 35%.

The classification was not made solely based on how the interviewees defined themselves politically. To reach the result, Datafolha asked a series of questions about social, cultural, political and economic values.

In total, there were ten questions about behavior, involving topics such as weapons, poverty, crime, homosexuality and religion, and another six about the economy, related to taxes and labor legislation.

Among behavioral issues, the biggest change occurred in the perception of poverty. The portion of respondents who attribute poverty to "laziness of people who don't want to work" rose from 22% to 40%. Those who associate it with a lack of equal opportunities fell from 76% to 58%, although this remains the majority position.

The ideological profile also varies according to gender. Among men, 50% were classified on the right and 33% on the left. Among women, the left appears ahead, with 44%, while the right accounts for 37%.

Methodology
The survey was carried out in person on June 17th and 18th with 2,004 voters aged 16 or over in 139 municipalities. The margin of error is two percentage points, plus or minus, with a 95% confidence level.

The survey is registered with the TSE (Superior Electoral Court) under number BR-09956/2026.
