Damares says he will miss Flávio's women's event after Michelle's video
Senator Damares Alves (Republicanos-DF) said this Tuesday (30) that she will not attend the event aimed at women organized by pre-candidate for the Presidency of the Republic Flávio Bolsonaro (PL), next Wednesday (1st).
Alongside Tereza Cristina (PP-MS), Damares is one of the few women allies of Flávio on the Senate bench. The absence from the event would be motivated by the repercussion of the video shared by former first lady Michelle Bolsonaro, in which she criticizes her stepson after a crisis of political understanding in Ceará.
"No, I won't. I think Michelle will too," said the senator upon entering the plenary for Tuesday's session.
Michelle's presence is still uncertain, without confirmation. The PL's national president, Valdemar Costa Neto, arranged a meeting with the former first lady in Brasília in the early afternoon with the aim of remedying Michelle's turbulent relationship with the presidential candidate.
According to sources interviewed by CNN Brasil, the climate to resolve the crisis created by Michelle's videos is tense, with "very difficult" to improve. The wife of former president Jair Bolsonaro (PL) said she had been "stabbed" and decided to publicly expose the friction she had been experiencing for months with Flávio.
A close friend of Michelle, Damares has been attacked by exponents of Bolsonarism for her partiality in the family confrontation. Journalist Paulo Figueiredo - an ally of Eduardo Bolsonaro in the United States - criticized the senator's likely absence from Flávio's event on Wednesday.
He said that he expects emphatic actions from Damares in Flávio's campaign and that he does not just continue to "pray". In response, Bolsonaro's former minister stated that she is "a woman who does not sit behind a computer, but faces struggles and demands standing up, looking her opponents in the eyes", in a discussion on social media.
Fight worries campaign
Flávio's campaign tries to contain the damage caused by Michelle's video, especially in relation to the female audience.
The senator and pre-candidate's team organizes a program that brings together proposals to combat domestic violence, female entrepreneurship and the care economy to be launched alongside the government program in July.
On social media, Bolsonaro's eldest son positions himself as "more moderate", under the motto of being "a father of a girl".
Regarding the friction with Michelle after the videos, he stated that the episode is a "turned page".
