Cuban health professionals provided care to victims of the earthquakes that hit Venezuela in a tent camp in the state of La Guaira, according to images released by Venezuelan state television on Saturday (4).

On the same day, the government reported that the official death toll from the June 24 tremors rose to 2,954.

According to Reuters, Cuban doctors and nurses circulated between the tents, checking one woman's blood pressure and treating another's foot wound. Displaced residents thanked the team for the medical care, medicines and emotional support provided after the tragedy.

Cuban doctor Daneisy Licea Solano stated that the mission is in Venezuela to offer medical assistance and hope to those affected.

Cuban nurse Yenisledy Queses Cabrales said that professionals have been treating injured people and offering psychological and emotional support to survivors since the beginning of the emergency.

Meanwhile, volunteers and international aid organizations have reported that food, medicine and heavy equipment have arrived late in hard-hit areas.

Venezuela's interim president, Delcy Rodríguez, rejected accusations that the government was slow to respond to the tragedy.
