Cuban Chancellor accuses Marco Rubio of "provoking" US military aggression

Cuba's Foreign Minister, Bruno Rodríguez, stated this Thursday (21) that the American Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, is provoking military aggression.

Rodríguez said his counterpart in Washington "lies once again to instigate a military aggression that would provoke Cuban and American bloodshed."

Rodríguez stated that Cuba does not pose a threat to the security of the United States.

He criticized Washington for the blockade, stating that the American government has "dedicated itself in recent months to causing despair among the population and the collapse of the economy by banning the import of fuel."

Earlier this Thursday, American Marco Rubio expressed pessimism about the possibility of a diplomatic solution for Cuba at a time when the US is increasing pressure on the island.

"The president's (Donald Trump) preference is always a negotiated, peaceful agreement. That's always our preference. And it remains our preference with Cuba. But to be honest with you, the likelihood of that happening, given who we're dealing with right now, is not high," Rubio told reporters in Florida.

The head of American diplomacy said that the government maintained contacts with Cuban authorities, but that "at the end of the day, they need to make a decision."

"Their system doesn't work," said Rubio, who is of Cuban origin. "You can't fix it with the current political system in place. They just don't understand how to do it."

The Donald Trump administration has maintained an aggressive economic blockade against the island.

This week, pressure on Cuba increased with the deployment of a US aircraft carrier to the Caribbean and criminal charges brought against former Cuban President Raúl Castro.
