Criminal factions operating in Bahia prisons are targets of operation

Bahia's security forces carried out an operation, this Friday morning (3), against the activities of criminal factions in the state's prison system.

The investigation investigates the activities of groups involved in drug trafficking, circulation of firearms and communication between imprisoned members and people at liberty. Measures are also adopted to block assets and financial assets of those being investigated.

Operation "Sintonia de Gravata" is an integrated action of the Public Ministry of the State of Bahia with Seap (Secretariat of Penitentiary Administration), the SSP (Secretariat of Public Security) and the Civil Police. So far, the authorities have not reported how many warrants have been served against those being investigated.

The operation is part of a national mobilization coordinated by the National Group to Combat Criminal Organizations (GNCOC), of the Brazilian Public Ministry, and mobilized more than 100 professionals including prosecutors, civil servants and security forces.
