The Central Bank reported this Thursday (2) that credit unions expanded their presence in Brazil in 2025 and exceeded R$1 trillion in assets.

According to the monetary authority, the growth in assets was mainly sustained by the advance in credit operations.

The sector also maintained expansion in funding, with emphasis on financing operations granted to micro, small and medium-sized companies and the agro-industrial sector.

Last year, the National Cooperative Credit System reached 59% of Brazilian municipalities. The member base totaled 21.2 million at the end of the year, of which 17.8 million were individuals and 3.4 million companies.

The growth of the National Cooperative Credit System was accompanied by an increase in the risk of the credit portfolio. There has been an increase in risk for both individuals and legal entities.

"The segment's aggregate results remained positive, and credit unions' capital ratios remained comfortable in relation to prudential limits," said the Central Bank
