Court revokes house arrest of Danúbia Rangel in Rio

The TJRJ (Court of Justice of the State of Rio de Janeiro) revoked the house arrest of Danúbia de Souza Rangel, convicted of money laundering and known for having been a companion of drug dealer Nem da Rocinha. With the decision, she returned to the prison system this Tuesday (9).

According to Seppen (Secretary of State for Penitentiary Administration), Danúbia is held at the Djanira Dolores de Oliveira Prison, in the Bangu Complex. She had obtained the benefit of house arrest in July last year, after being arrested just hours after giving birth to a girl diagnosed with Down Syndrome.

The revocation request was presented by the MPRJ (Public Ministry of the State of Rio de Janeiro). Among the arguments presented are the assessment of the convict's dangerousness and the existence of other people capable of providing the necessary care to the child, currently 10 months old.

The court decision determined that Danúbia should present himself to Justice within 15 days to resume serving his sentence in a semi-open regime. According to the defense, she was already on her way to the forum to comply with the order when she was approached by military police officers.

The approach took place on the afternoon of this Tuesday (9), on Avenida Salvador Allende, in Jacarepaguá, in the West Zone of Rio, close to the 31st BPM (Recreio dos Bandeirantes).

Lawyer Marco Aurélio reported that Danúbia was being taken to the Criminal Executions Court to begin procedures for entry into a prison unit. According to the defense, the police officers asked her to accompany them to a police station. Another lawyer who accompanied her stated that there was no arrest warrant issued for his client.

At the time of the approach, Danúbia had her daughter on her lap and was wearing an electronic ankle bracelet, equipment that monitored compliance with the conditions imposed by the Court.
