Court orders preventive detention of trio for death of young man in rope jump

The Court of São Paulo converted into preventive the arrest of the three men suspected of murdering the 21-year-old girl during a rope jump on Ponte do Esqueleto in Limeira, in the interior of São Paulo, on Saturday morning (13). The custody hearing was held this Sunday morning (14).

Maria Eduarda Rodrigues de Freitas died after being thrown from a height of 40 meters without safety equipment. At the time she was thrown, she was not secured by the safety rope.

A video shows the exact moment the woman is thrown from the bridge. After being thrown by employees of the company Entre Cordas, it is possible to hear people who were there screaming when they realized that the woman was without the rope that was supposed to hold her during the free fall.

After the accident, there were attempts at CPR maneuvers carried out by locals until the arrival of the Samu team (Mobile Emergency Care Service), but the woman died at the scene due to polytrauma. The young woman was laid to rest this Sunday morning, at the Jandira Municipal Cemetery, in Greater São Paulo.

Homicide with eventual intent
The victim was thrown from the bridge by three individuals, without due inspection or use of essential safety equipment. Many people followed the extreme sport.

According to the incident report, when police officers arrived at the scene, they found two individuals close to the victim and questioned what had happened. When one of the police officers moved away to provide rescue support, the individuals fled towards a vegetation area.

As a result, support was requested from other vehicles and the PM aircraft to locate the men.

The Civil Police understood that the elements indicate that those investigated took the risk of resulting in death, which actually occurred. Authorities pointed out that in addition to the lack of security, the location has a history of serious incidents, including other deaths.

For this reason, the three were arrested for murder with possible intent, when the risk of committing the crime is assumed.
