The TJMG (Court of Justice of Minas Gerais) denied, this Monday (8), the request to revoke the preventive detention of Argentine Eduardo Ignacio Murias, aged 63.

The man has been imprisoned since May 24th, at the São João del Rei Prison, after photographing a black child and sharing the images with racist comments during a tourist trip from Maria Fumaça de São João del-Rei to Tiradentes, in Campo das Vertentes, in the Zona da Mata of Minas Gerais.

The TJMG's decision was in favor of the Public Ministry of Minas Gerais, which defended the maintenance of the Argentinian's precautionary custody.

The defendant's defense had already filed a request for habeas corpus with the Minas Gerais court on May 30, which was denied on the same day.

The new request came after the person being investigated said he was a victim of attacks inside the prison. In a note, the TJMG informed that it was requested that the man be sent to undergo a complementary criminal examination and the adoption of measures to guarantee his physical integrity.

Sejusp (Secretariat of State for Justice and Public Security) said that the management of the São João de Rei Prison initiated an internal procedure to investigate the incident reported by the person being investigated. According to the ministry, the Argentine reported that he had been punched by other prisoners on May 25, one day after his arrest.

Murias was placed in a cell separate from the other inmates as a security measure after undergoing a corpus delicti examination. The secretariat reinforced that this procedure was adopted independently of the Court's request.

In the case of violence, those allegedly involved will be heard by the Disciplinary Council of the prison unit and may suffer administrative sanctions.

Remember the case
During the trip, the Argentinean photographed a 7-year-old boy and sent the photos accompanied by racist messages via an app. He even mentions the possibility of taking the child "as a slave".

CNN Brasil had access to the print of the conversation between the man and another person who was not identified. In one of the conversations he writes: "I can take a slave to take care of your granddaughters."

The tourist was noticed by other passengers who alerted the child's mother. According to the police report, the mother confronted the man, who unlocked his cell phone and allowed her to see the messages.

The PMMG (Military Police of Minas Gerais) was called and the suspect was arrested.

The Argentine's cell phone was seized to preserve evidence analyzed in the future by the authorities.
