Court keeps son of Norwegian crown princess in prison

An appeals court annulled, this Wednesday (10), the provisional release of Marius Borg Hoiby, son of the Crown Princess of Norway, accused of rape and violence against several women.
On Monday, a judge of first instance had ordered the release of the 29-year-old man, who has been in pre-trial detention since the beginning of February, so that he could be with his seriously ill mother.
However, as the Prosecutor's Office appealed, this decision had not yet been implemented.
"There remains a high probability that Marius Borg Hoiby will commit further crimes if released," the Oslo appeals court said in its ruling on Wednesday.

In recent months, the health of her mother, Princess Mette-Marit, who suffers from an incurable lung disease, has deteriorated considerably, to the point where doctors have placed her on a waiting list for a delicate lung transplant.
Hoiby's lawyers told AFP they were "extremely disappointed". "An appeal is being considered" before the Supreme Court, said one of them, Petar Sekulic.
Hoiby, the son of a relationship prior to his mother's marriage to Crown Prince Haakon in 2001, will learn the verdict in his case next Monday.
