Councilor kills ex-wife and is honored after being found dead
The City of Ourilândia do Norte declared an official mourning period of three days following the death of former mayor and current councilor Romildo Veloso e Silva, found dead this Thursday (4). The case, however, occurs amid the investigation into the death of Ilcicléia Alves Veloso, the councilor's ex-wife.
In a note published on social media, the city hall stated that the politician "contributed to the development and growth" of the city and expressed condolences to his family and friends.
Known as "Doctor Veloso", he was mayor of the municipality for four terms, totaling 16 years at the head of the municipal administration.
According to the Pará Civil Police, the incident is being investigated by the Ourilândia do Norte Police Station as an attempted feminicide. CNN Brasil seeks more information about the dynamics of the incident with the Military Police.
Hours after releasing a note of condolence over the death of Romildo Veloso, the city hall also published a new expression of solidarity directed to the victim.
In the statement, the municipal administration stated that Ilcicléia, known as "Leia Veloso", was first lady and businesswoman in the municipality, in addition to highlighting that she leaves behind three children.
The note also expresses condolences to family and friends "at this time of deep pain and regret".
