Corinthians wins São Paulo Basketball Cup title with Under-22 team and confirms great phase of the season

Corinthians confirmed the excellent moment experienced by its Under-22 team in basketball and won, on Friday night (10), the São Paulo Basketball Cup title. Playing at Ginásio Manoel Soares, in Tatuí, Timão beat the home team 68 x 61 in the fourth game of the decisive series and closed the decision 3 x 1, lifting the cup in the competition organized by the São Paulo Basketball Federation (FPB).
The title crowns an outstanding season for the squad led by Wesley Aguiar, who simultaneously competes in the Basketball Development League (LDB), the main national tournament for the Under-22 category, and used the Copa São Paulo, an adult competition, as an important preparation for the sequence of the calendar.

Campaign ends with state title
Even facing adult teams throughout the competition, Corinthians invested in its U22 squad and grew throughout the tournament until achieving the achievement.
In the first phase, the black and white team recorded four wins and two defeats, guaranteeing qualification for the knockout stages.
In the quarterfinals, they eliminated Diadema in three matches. After opening the series with a 102 x 59 victory, they were beaten 89 x 88 in the second match and confirmed their place by winning the third match 83 x 69.
In the semi-final, the opponent was Liga Sorocabana. Timão won the first game 86 x 85, lost the second 89 x 87 and came back to win the decisive match by scoring 75 x 59, guaranteeing their presence in the final.
Overturn over Tatuí is worth the cup
The decision started unfavorably for Corinthians. In the first game of the best-of-five series, played in Tatuí, the team was defeated 98 x 61.
The reaction began in Parque São Jorge. Timão tied the series by winning the second match 81 x 69 and took the advantage by scoring 75 x 73 in the third match.
Needing just one more victory to win the title, Corinthians returned to Tatuí this Friday and confirmed their achievement by winning 68 x 61, closing the series 3 x 1.
Coach Wesley Aguiar started the match with: Lukinhas, Matheus Jamelão, Kaique, Kaick Dias and Luiggi. João Pedro, Filipe, André Pires, Patrick and Miguel also entered during the confrontation.
The duel was balanced practically the entire time. Corinthians won the first quarter 22 x 18, lost the second 11 x 10, opened up a lead in the third period by scoring 17 x 10 and managed the difference in the last quarter to confirm the title.
The main highlight of the decision was captain Kaique, who ended the match with a double-double of 22 points and ten rebounds, being the scorer of the match. Matheus Jamelão contributed with 17 points, while Luiggi dominated the rebounds, ending the game with 13.
LDB reinforces the cast's great moment
The state victory comes just a few days after Corinthians ended the first stage of the Basketball Development League with a perfect campaign.
Playing in Rio Claro, Timão won the six matches played and ended up in the isolated leadership of Group A, being the only member of the group to achieve 100% success.
The results were:
- Corinthians 84 x 69 Cruzeiro
- Corinthians 83 x 82 Instituto Viva Vida
- Corinthians 67 x 66 Minas (after extension) South
The second stage of the LDB will be played between July and August. In it, the teams will face clubs from their own subgroup in search of a place in the Gold Series, a phase that will bring together the eight best teams in the competition and define the national champion.
With the Copa São Paulo title and the undefeated leadership of the LDB, Corinthians reaches the end of the season as one of the main candidates for achievements in the Under-22 category.
