Corinthians winger analyzes new defeat in the LNF and regrets wasted chances

Corinthians took to the court on Saturday night (4) to face Umuarama, at Ginásio Amario Vieira da Costa, in a duel valid for the 11th round of the National Futsal League (LNF), and ended up defeated by a score of 1 x 0. The setback caused Timão to fall from 12th to 13th place with eight points added - two wins, two draws and seven defeats - 16 goals scored and 25 conceded.

After the clock ran out, 21-year-old winger Maicon, the team's top scorer in the current season with 11 goals in 22 games, gave an interview to LNF TV and analyzed Timão's new negative result in the national competition. He regretted the excess of opportunities, something that has been recurring this year, for Alvinegro, especially in the first stage of the match. In the final moments, the team led by Fernando Malafaia even used the line goalkeeper, but was still defeated.

"I believe we started the game very well, but as the first half progressed, we often left something to be desired, having opportunities, not knowing how to score. It's been like this in almost every game, but I believe it can be improved, because this is practiced. The more you repeat, the more success you will have", he began.

Afterwards, the athlete congratulated his opponent on the victory and highlighted that Corinthians' current situation in the LNF does not match the club's history and representation. The Corinthians squad is only one position above relegation and, even so, has a chance of qualifying for the knockout phase, as fifth to 12th place gives a place to the knockout playoffs.

"It's to congratulate the Umuarama team. I know it's a difficult moment for us, because we're at the bottom of the table, it's not where Corinthians has to be, because Corinthians has to be at the top of the table, for the shirt they represent, for the club they represent. So, I find it difficult to find words to say at this moment", he continued.

Finally, he talked about discomfort he felt in his knee after a shot in the first half: Talking about my knee, I felt a little pain in the first shot I made with my left, but I don't think it's something that can be a concern, I think it's just a blow from the game or something like that", he concluded.

Considered one of the great revelations of the Corinthians futsal base, Maicon has a contract with Timão until December 2027, having made his professional debut in May 2023. Since then, he has only shown progress in terms of performance and is an absolute starter for the team this season. In 2024, he scored 15 times in 40 games. Last year, in turn, there were 21 goals in 46 matches.

After ending last season with two titles (Taça São Paulo and Torneo Internacional Mucho Más, in Spain) and three runners-up (Supercopa Gramado, Campeonato Paulista and Liga Nacional), Corinthians has seen a sharp drop in performance this year. This can be explained by the cost reduction in the department, promoted by Osmar Stabile's management, due to the club's serious financial crisis, which has a debt of almost R$3 billion. As a result, Timão has been using, for the most part, athletes from the base, which currently accounts for just over 60% of the squad.

Even with the good campaign in the state - runner-up with 19 points, six wins, one draw and one defeat, with 25 goals scored and five conceded - the team is fighting against the drop in the LNF and was eliminated in the round of 16 of the LNF Cup after losing to São Lourenço, away from home, by the score of 4 x 1.

Corinthians will now return to the courts at 7:30 pm (Brasília time), to host Minas, at Ginásio Wlamir Marques, Parque São Jorge, for the 12th round of the National Futsal League (LNF). The duel is considered 'six points', as both teams are poorly positioned on the leaderboard.
