The situation occurs amid negotiations for the Dutchman to remain at Parque São Jorge. The striker's current contract is valid until July 31st and, as of this Tuesday (1st), it enters its final month.
While discussing contract renewal, Corinthians also needs to resolve a bureaucratic issue involving the athlete's registration. Although the contract is valid until the end of July, the contract incorrectly appears as ending in June in the São Paulo Football Federation (FPF) system, a situation that must be regularized so that Memphis can play normally in the next matches.
Until the end of the current contract, Corinthians has three commitments scheduled for the Brazilian Championship: against Remo, on the 23rd of July, against Bahia, on the 26th, and against Athletico-PR, on the 30th.
The elimination of the Netherlands took place last Monday night (29). After a 1-1 draw with Morocco in regular time, in Monterrey, Mexico, the Dutch were defeated 3-2 in the penalty shootout and said goodbye to the tournament. During the group stage, the team finished at the top of group F, with seven points gained, two wins, one draw, ten goals scored and four conceded.
Memphis participated in three World Cup matches. The striker came on in the 2-2 draw against Japan, played 18 minutes in the 5-1 win over Sweden, when he contributed an assist, and was also on the field for 13 minutes in the 3-1 win over Tunisia. In the knockout match against Morocco, however, the player remained on the bench during the 90 minutes and also in extra time.
Despite the proximity of the end of the contract, the scenario between the parties continues to be one of negotiations. Corinthians has already presented a renewal proposal to the attacker, who is evaluating the terms of the new agreement. Among the changes discussed are a reduction in salary values and a restructuring of the form of remuneration for the number 10.
