Corinthians tries to improve offensive performance at home following the Brazilian Championship

Corinthians will have a full calendar when the season resumes after the break for the World Cup. In addition to the round of 16 matches of the Copa do Brasil, against Internacional, and the Conmebol Libertadores, against Rosario Central, from Argentina, the team will still have the remaining 20 games of the Brazilian Championship ahead. In the national competition, one of the challenges will be to increase offensive performance acting as home team.
To date, Timão has played nine home matches for the Brasileirão, eight at the Neo Química Arena and one at Vila Belmiro, the stage for their debut against Bahia. During this period, the club has four wins, two draws and three defeats, a campaign that yields 14 points and places Corinthians in 13th place in the ranking of performance as home team.

The main obstacle has been offensive production. With just nine goals scored in nine matches, Corinthians has the lowest number of goals among the clubs that have played at home in the Brazilian Championship so far. In three matches, the team left the field without finding the net: in the 0-0 draw with Palmeiras and in the defeats to Coritiba, 2-0, and Flamengo, 1-0.
Despite the general numbers, performance improved after the arrival of coach Fernando Diniz. Of the nine home games, five were played under the command of Dorival Júnior. During this period, Corinthians won just one victory, drew once and suffered three defeats, achieving 26.7% of points. The attack also scored just four goals, an average of 0.8 per game.
With Fernando Diniz, the scenario changed. In four home matches for the Brasileirão, Corinthians won three wins and one draw, achieving a 75% success rate. The team also started to produce more offensively, with five goals scored, an average of 1.25 per game.
Timão's next match in front of their fans for the Brazilian Championship will be against Remo, on July 23rd, in the 19th round, which ends the first round of the competition. In case of victory, Corinthians will reach 17 points at home and will be able to gain positions in the performance classification at home. The team would surpass Vasco and Cruzeiro, both with 16 points, and could equal Santos' score, depending on the goal difference.
