Corinthians point guard called up to compete in World Cup qualifiers for Brazil

Corinthians will once again have a representative on the Brazilian basketball team. A highlight of Timão in the last edition of Novo Basquete Brasil (NBB), point guard Elinho was included in the list of players called up for the final matches of the first phase of the Qualifiers for the 2027 World Cup.

The team led by Aleksandar Petrovic will face Venezuela and Colombia on July 2nd and 6th, respectively. The matches will be played away from home, in the cities of Barquisimeto and Cali, and end Brazilian participation in this stage of the competition. The objective is to maintain the undefeated campaign before the start of the decisive phase in the search for a place in the World Cup in Qatar.

For the Qualifiers sequence, Petrovic selected 13 athletes. The group brings together names that participated in winning the 2025 AmeriCup and also includes the presence of Mãozinha, former Corinthians player.

Elinho arrives at the squad accredited by the impressive performance presented during the season. The point guard was one of the main players in Corinthians' historic campaign in the NBB, a competition in which the team reached the semi-finals for the first time and ended up being eliminated by Pinheiros, runner-up in the tournament.

The preparation of the Brazilian team will begin on June 23, in Panama. The delegation will remain in the country until the 29th, carrying out training and adjustments aimed at official commitments.

During this period, the Brazilians will also play a friendly against the Panamanian team. The clash is scheduled for June 28th, in Panama City, and will serve as the last test before the Qualifiers resume.

After the training phase, the team will travel to Venezuela, where they will face the home team in Barquisimeto, on July 2nd. Afterwards, he will travel directly to Colombia, the stage for the duel scheduled for July 6th, ending the first stage of the qualifiers.

With a guaranteed place in the second phase of the tournament, Brazil already knows the next challenges. In August, the team will return to the court to face the United States, Dominican Republic and Mexico in six more matches that will define the representatives of the American continent in the 2027 Basketball World Cup, which will be held in Qatar.
