Corinthians number 10 shirt reaches significant mark in World Cups

Forward Memphis Depay, from Corinthians, who entered again in the second stage, reached an impressive milestone for the Netherlands in World Cups, reaching 12 games without being defeated in the competition (ignoring penalty shootouts). In that edition, the Dutchman played four matches - victories over Australia (3 x 2), Chile (2 x 0) and Mexico (2 x 0) -, in addition to the goalless draw with Costa Rica (0 x 0).

In 2018, Memphis Depay did not compete in the tournament, as the Netherlands did not win the place. Four years later, in Qatar. In the last edition, he played five games: the triumphs over Senegal (2 x 0), Qatar (2 x 0), the United States (3 x 1), in addition to the draws against Ecuador (1 x 1) and Argentina (2 x 2). Memphis Depay, in this way, joined a select list of players who have 12 games unbeaten in World Cups. The first of them is Zagallo, who had 10 wins and two draws between 1958 and 1962, winning the tournament with Brazil on both occasions. Later, Julio Olarticoechea appears, who accumulated eight wins and four draws between 1986 (champion) and 1990. The third is Daley Blind. The defender recorded eight wins and four draws between 2014 and 2022.
Now, Ronald Koeman's men will return to the field next Tuesday (30), at 10pm (Brasília time), when they will face Morocco, who were second in Group C (in Brazil), in the round of 32. The match will take place in Mexico.

Hired in September 2024 after not having his contract renewed with Atlético de Madrid, from Spain, Memphis Depay arrived at Corinthians and, immediately, was fundamental in the team's start in the previous edition of the Brazilian Championship (from Z4 to Pre-Libertadores), scoring seven goals and providing an assist in 11 matches in the national tournament.
Last season and at the beginning of this one, he was decisive in winning the Campeonato Paulista (2025), Copa do Brasil (2025) and Supercopa do Brasil (2026), accumulating two assists in these decisions and being important in the previous knockout stages. With the Corinthian shirt, he scored 20 goals and 15 assists in 79 matches.
